Cookies

Changes to this policy

If we add or remove a cookie, we update this page and note the change in the Updates feed. If we ever introduce a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask for your consent on the banner before setting it.

How long cookies are kept

The session cookie expires when you close the browser. The preference cookie lasts for 12 months, after which the site asks you again. You can clear cookies at any time from your browser’s settings; the site will still work, you will just see the cookie banner again on the next visit.

Third-party cookies

When you click a link to Pulsarspins, the operator may set its own cookies on your browser to attribute the referral and to run its own site. Those cookies are covered by the operator’s cookie policy, not ours. If you want to see which cookies any site has placed on your browser, every modern browser has a ‘storage’ or ‘application’ tab in its developer tools.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website asks your browser to store so that it can recognise your device the next time you visit. Cookies are not programs, they do not run on your computer, and they cannot read other cookies from other sites. They are text, and most of them store simple things like a session identifier or a language preference. Cookies come in two broad kinds: ‘first-party’ cookies, set by the site you are on, and ‘third-party’ cookies, set by other services that the page embeds (ad networks, analytics, affiliate trackers). Modern browsers (Safari, Firefox and increasingly Chrome) block most third-party cookies by default, so even sites that use them cannot rely on them.

Which cookies this site uses

This site uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie that remembers whether you accepted the cookie banner, and a preference cookie that remembers your choice of language if you changed it. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not use cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not use fingerprinting. We also do not run server-side analytics that need a cookie to work — our page-view statistics come from the standard web server log, which does not place anything on your browser.
