Privacy Policy

What we collect

  1. When you simply read a page on this site, we log the standard information that any web server receives: the page you requested, the referring page, your user agent string and a truncated IP address. If you contact us by email, we store your message and your reply address for as long as needed to answer and keep a record of the exchange. We do not ask you to register, we do not sell products on the site and we do not operate any account system.

Privacy questions

  1. If you want a copy of the personal data we hold about you, want it corrected, or want it deleted, write to [email protected]. Please send the request from the email address the data was collected on; otherwise we have to ask a few questions first to make sure we are not sending data to the wrong person. We answer within 30 days.

International data transfers

  1. The site is operated from the United States, and our hosting infrastructure is based there. If you contact us from outside the US, your email is transferred to and stored in the US. We use providers that offer standard contractual safeguards for international transfers under the laws that apply to them.

How we use the data

  1. Server logs are used to keep the site running: diagnose errors, size the server, block abuse. Correspondence is used to answer you and to keep an audit trail of corrections. We do not profile readers, we do not run targeted advertising on this site and we do not build audience segments to sell to third parties.

Who else sees the data

  1. Our hosting provider sees the same server logs we do, because they operate the servers. Our email provider sees messages you send us. Clicks on affiliate links to Pulsarspins are tracked by the operator so that commissions can be attributed — that tracking is covered by the operator’s own privacy policy, not ours. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers.

Changes to this policy

  1. If we change this policy, the ‘Last updated’ date at the top of the page is updated and a short note describing what changed is added to the Updates section of the site. Material changes are flagged for at least 30 days before they take effect.

How long we keep it

  1. Raw server logs are kept for 30 days, then rotated out. Aggregated statistics (page views by day, country, device class) are kept for 24 months to help us plan what to update. Correspondence is kept for 24 months unless it relates to an unresolved complaint, in which case it is kept until the complaint is closed and then for a further 12 months as evidence.
